Label TextCaroline Dale Parke wrote young people’s books, many of them set in historical backgrounds. For this scene of the arrival of Queen Isabella, Bernard Rosenmeyer's waving flags reflect the author's description of Isabella approaching “the long line of standards (that) saluted her in a gorgeous undulation." Rosenmeyer's sharply foreshortened horse at left - outside the frame of the main action - sweeps the reader into the scene.
