Label TextUnlike many ambitious artists of his generation (and most of his friends), John Sloan never traveled to Europe. In order to accurately capture settings, like the background of this etching, Sloan studied maps and images of Paris from the early and mid-19th century, when Charles Paul de Kock's stories unfolded.
