Label TextEthel Pennewill Brown Leach studied with Howard Pyle and began her successful illustration career in the early 20th century. By the teens, however, she was focused on painting portraits and landscape scenes such as this one. In the 1920s, she moved to Frederica, Delaware, and purchased a cottage in Rehoboth Beach, and these regional landscapes became frequent subjects.
