Label TextJohn Gray met Shannon early in his career as a writer in 1888. He contributed several poems to The Dial. Gray was a close friend of Oscar Wilde’s and is believed to have been the model for his Picture of Dorian Gray (1890). In 1901 he was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest. He continued to write after his ordination.
Shannon depicts Gray in a moment of thought, his head resting on his hand, with the torso merely suggested by a few rapidly drawn lines.
