Label TextCharles MacLellan's initial art training at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where Harvey Dunn, Roscoe Shrader and Gayle Hoskins were also students. He then went to work for a Chicago engraving business. While still in the city, he illustrated magazine covers, designed stained glass windows, and created advertising posters and newspaper illustrations. He then completed his studies with Howard Pyle in Wilmington. His most famous body of work was his 44 covers for The Saturday Evening Post. He also created portraits and landscapes.
MacLellan remained in Wilmington for most of his career. He was closely involved with the Wilmington Society of the Fine Arts (the Museum's predecessor), the Studio Group, and other local organizations.
