Label TextThe Chicago department store Carson, Pirie, Scott and Company produced a monthly publication that was primarily an advertising vehicle. In an 1896 issue of Life magazine, the monthly promoted itself as "the daintiest of the magazines," claiming that "the finest typography and the highest grade of original illustrations...make it the most attractive of any of the periodicals devoted to woman and her wardrobe." A native of Iowa, Martin Justice worked as a staff artust for The Saturday Evening Post. In 1925 he settled in Los Angeles and soon became an artist and director in the movie industry.
