Label TextCartoonist, illustrator, and graphic artist, Rea Irwin was known for his association with The New Yorker. After working as a catoonist in his native San Francisco, and then in New York, he was on the founding board of The New Yorker, and became its first art editor. He also produced 169 covers and many other illustrations for the magazine between 1925 and 1958. His characters were both simplified and exaggerated; his scenes exist in a largely flat space.Ida Marion Dougherty (Aylward)
