Label TextFairfax Murray began his career as a studio assistant to Edward Burne-Jones. The draped figure in this drawing reflects Burne-Jones’ interest in late Renaissance art and classical sculpture and signifies a move away from the more archaic borrowings of the early Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. This drawing is almost surely related to 2021-32 which has been identified as related to decorative panels for furniture produced by the firm of Collinson and Lock
