Label TextIn 1958 Kienbusch received a Guggenheim Fellowship to travel to Greece. The following year he produced this picture based on his sketches and memories of Minoan ruins. Called a "semi-abstract" painter at the time, Kienbusch sought to fuse together elements of a landscape or structure, creating an evocation of his experience.
