Label TextAlthough best remembered for their scenes of urban life, all of the members of the Ashcan School also made figure studies, portraits, and landscapes. The intense colors of Glackens’ seashore scene may reflect the influence of the French modern style known as Fauvism. Glackens was well versed in European art, traveling to Paris in 1911 to purchase modern paintings for his friend, the art collector Albert C. Barnes.
