Label TextSamuel Palmer was one of a group of artists influenced by William Blake called “The Ancients,” who worked just slightly prior to the formation of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. The group gathered in Shoreham, Kent, where they painted the landscape focusing on the religious associations of the passing of the seasons. These two etchings are companion pieces, their compositions mirroring one another and bookmarking the beginning and end of the rural working day.
