Label TextIllustrator Howard Chandler Christy designed many World War I posters, most of them prominently featuring images of women in the style of the "Christy Girl," a type he had made famous as a model of American beauty. Here an allegorical figure of America holds a wreath over a list of war dead representing several ethnic groups. Christy was a member of the US government's Department of Pictorial Publicity committee, commissioned to generate Americans' support of the war.
