Label TextW.A.S. Benson was a key, if contradictory, figure in the Arts and Crafts Movement. Although a devoted friend and supporter of William Morris, who in fact succeeded Morris as head of the Company at his death, Benson held differing views with regard to production. While Morris was a staunch advocate of individually handcrafted objects, Benson was willing to utilize some technological advances to reduce the cost of objects produced. This Muffin Dish, for instance, was shaped on a lathe instead of being hammered by hand.
