Label TextCameron was a painter and etcher who was a leader in the Scottish etching revival of the late 19th century. Although he focused on architectural subjects earlier in his career, around 1912 he turned to the landscape of his native country. Broad sparsely detailed images such as this one-with an audacious compositional expanse of empty space-evoke the overwhelming vastness of the small strip of water that separates the island of Kerrera from the Scottish mainland.
