Label TextThis story centers on an unemployed man who eventually finds a job as a salesman. To his dismay, all his business deals must be made in pubs. He falls into alcoholism, and dies from its effects. His cynical employers then condemn him for drinking "to excess." Here, early in the plot, he contemplates the job offer that will be his ruin.Several of Aumonier's works were adapted for movies and for Alfred Hitchcock's television series.
Becher's notes for the publication's art editor are visible on this drawing.
