Label TextIn 1950 Sloan accepted a commission to paint the portrait of Arthur S. Meyer, who was retiring as chairman of the New York State Board of Mediation. Helen Farr Sloan recalled that Meyer kept falling asleep during the sittings, which may explain his expression in this sketch.
