Label TextThroughout his career, Sloan made drawings of sexual encounters—some ribald and others earnest. The caption of this one references the debate about vivisection—or experimentation on animals for medical research—a hot topic in the United States at the turn of the century. Perhaps more surprising, Sloan kept his sexual drawings, and his widow did as well, eventually donating them to the Museum with thousands of other works.
