Label TextThe Associated American Artists was the name Sloan suggested for the group that organized the 1910 Exhibition of Independent Artists. The name did not catch on, but the group--spearheaded by Sloan, Robert Henri, Walt Kuhn, and Arthur B. Davies--did manage to mount an ambitious exhibition with the help of several of Henri's students. Sloan envisioned the logo in the form of an "Indian arrowhead."
