Label TextThough little is known about Catherine Melton, her work is associated with Washington, D.c., where she studied at the Corcoran Gallery School of Art, and with her native Tennessee, whee she belonged to various artists' associations. Ward's Seminary for Young Ladies was founded in 1865 by William E. Ward, a Presbyterian Minister and his wife, Eliza Hudson Ward, as a school for girls in Nashville, Tennessee.
