Label TextThis watercolor was a preliminary study for one of Century Magazine's series of "Old College Songs," illustrations of campus life to accompany the words and music of college songs. Although not identified by Adams, the two figures in the foreground seem to be President Abraham Lincoln (right) and General Winfield Scott (left). Lincoln visited West Point in 1862 to consult Scott, who had retired there, about Union military strategy.
