Label TextThe Bibliomaniac Edition was the most expensive of several editions of the Paul De Kock series offered by Frederick J. Quinby & Co. The pricier editions featured finer papers, more elaborate bindings, and more hand-worked illustrations. The etchings for the Bibliomaniac Edition (originally advertised at $500 per volume!) were printed on vellum with remarques below the main images. This proof on vellum was likely produced as a test for this edition. Unfortunately, vellum is not an ideal surface for etching, so the printing is finer in the less pricey editions.
