Label TextMacWhirter was a Scottish landscape painter who excelled at capturing the wet, windy atmospheric conditions of his native land. His technique is a combination of careful study of the natural world, reflecting the influence of John Ruskin and the Pre-Raphaelites, and a broader interpretation of the sublime in the manner of J. M. W. Turner. He was particularly drawn to the work of Turner and John Everett Millias-"Turner for light and atmosphere, and the drawing of mountains and clouds; Millais, for everything." (msf)
