Label TextThis print pictures the West Side Elevated Highway, a section of New York State Route 9A running along the Hudson River in Manhattan. One of the first urban freeways, it was controversial from the start and criticized for its ugliness and noise, as well as its impact on parks, markets, and local businesses. After a partial collapse in 1973, most of the elevated freeway was dismantled.
