Label TextGeorge du Maurier's novel Trilby was one of the most popular of its time. A melodrama of Bohemian life set in mid-19th century Paris, it was quickly adapted for the stage and inspired numerous parodies, including a burlesque play staged by students at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. For this endeavor, Sloan designed this ticket and starred in the title role of Twillbe, the play's heroine who is pictured here.
