Label TextThis is a bookseller's advertising poster for a series of children's books published by T. Fisher Unwin of London. The design of the sultry woman - which may seem out of character for references to children's books - was typical of Aubrey Beardsley's style.Printed at Jules Cheret's famous Imprimerie Chaix, Paris, Les Affiches Etrangeres Illustrees (1987) presented a collection of the best posters of La Belle Epoque by foreign artists in limited editions of 1025, printed at a reduced size..
Aubrey Vincent Beardsley (1872-1898) was a leading figure in the Aesthetic movement and his drawings, influenced by Japanese wood-block prints, often emphasized the decadent and the erotic.
