Label TextNew Yorkers living in the South Bronx in the 1970s and 1980s experienced trauma as apartment buildings were burned by landlords for insurance money. The economic and physical destruction of the neighborhood was seen most significantly on Charlotte Street. The spirit of pride endured, displayed here with the Puerto Rican flag. Among the ruins, the creativity of Hip-Hop was born.
