Label TextStum-ma-nu (c.1819–1839) was born near the mouth of the Columbia River, close to the Pacific Ocean, among the Chinook tribe. He was a student in the Methodist missionary school of Rev. Jason Lee near present-day Salem, Oregon, and he traveled through East Coast cities with Lee to help raise funds for missionary activities.
