Label TextMarianna Sloan's painting evokes the accompanying poem's description of a winter sunset. In magazines in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, poems were often published with decorative surrounds. This may have been intended as such a design. The poet, Harvey Maitland Watts, was a journalist who served as Managing Editor of the Philadelphia Press.
