Label TextIn 1937 Sheeler compiled notes for an autobiography, which were turned over to the writer Constance Rourke, who then produced the book, Charles Sheeler: Artist in the American Tradition, published the following year. This watercolor is a study for the book's dust jacket design. Sheeler's cover design incorporates one of the artist's well known paintings, Bucks County Barn, 1926, in the collection of the San Diego Museum of Art.
