Label TextAmerican photographer, educator, art historian, and critic Carl Chiarenza received his bachelor of fine arts degree from Rochester Institute of Technology and his doctorate degree from Harvard University in 1973. Chiarenza creates collages specifically meant to be photographed in black and white. The resulting photographs address the artist’s interest in the artificial and transformative nature of the medium—the shift from an abstract composition to a recognizable image.
