Label TextBrangwyn, who is best known as a painter of fine and decorative work, attempted his first etching in 1900. He was quickly drawn to the technical possibilities of this artistic medium. In his prints, etched lines are often heavily bitten and a thick film of ink is left on portions of the plate to create dramatic tonal values. Although purists have suggested that Brangwyn's approach results in an imagery that is overly theatrical, his manner lends itself to the atmospheric rendering of a rainy day in this urban viewscape.
