Label TextAlberta Hunter (1895-1984) was a successful jazz and blues singer and songwriter from the early 1920s to the mid-1950s, when she became a nurse. She recorded a few songs in 1961 but continued to work as a nurse until her hospital retired her at age 82. That was in 1977 when Heiser photographed her, capturing the lively personality and youthful energy that would propel her return to a successful musical career in the 1980s.
