Label TextThis is one of several designs prepared for the 1894 Bodley Head edition which were not included, although in this case the reason for expurgation is not entirely clear. Salomé’s normally svelte silhouette has here been expanded to Buddha-like proportion. She sits with her back to the reader holding a phallic object.
