Label TextEschewing the infatuated Herod’s offer to join him in a cup of wine, Salomé instead gazes down at him with disdainful contempt. The image of Herod is yet another (unsympathetic) Wildean cameo. Both figures are outlined in the simplest of line, while the bottom half of the composition is filled with intricate decorative patterning, a profusion of nebulous sign and symbol.
