Label TextBalancing 150 feet above 30,000 spectators, Karl Wallenda takes a 600-foot tightrope walk across Veterans Stadium during a doubleheader between the Phillies and Montreal Expos in August, 1972. The 67-year-old patriarch of the "Flying Wallendas" completed the stunt in 17 minutes, pausing to stand on his head. His performance came two weeks after he watched his son-in-law plummet to death during a circus act. "It was the toughest walk I ever made," Wallenda said.
