Label TextThis article is an account of the career and actions of Captain Kidd, the late 17th century Scottish captain of the Adventure Galley, a ship that was commissioned as an English privateer. As a privateer, any ship belonging to a country at war with England was fair game. Some of Kidd's actions were questionable and eventually charges were levied against Kidd by the English government. Captain William Kidd was hanged as a pirate on May 23, 1701.
