Label TextChaïm Soutine (1893–1943) was a Russian painter who lived most of his professional life in Paris. A Jew, he was forced into hiding when the Nazis invaded Paris, and he died during the occupation. With its radically asymmetrical face, this etching resembles the Soutine's expressionist self-portrait at the Hermitage.
