Label TextIn the story, as a trapper observes Christmas eve in his cabin with a friend, he resolves to bring food and provisions to a nearby woman and her children; he knows that her husband has abandonned them. Here, before his arrival, the woman attempts unseccessfully to shoot a deer to feed her family. All ends happily when the trapper and his friend appear with their gifts and celebrate the holiday with the family.

Arthur Burdett Frost's versatility made him an accomplished painter, illustrator, and graphic artist, and an innovator in the field of comic strips.This illustration, while part of a narrative, recalls one of Frost's specialties--sporting scenes.
