Label TextAt first glance, the medium of etching may appear limited since the artist works in black and white rather than color. Upon consideration, a great variety of possibilities arise. The artist may use different marks to make lines as well as control and vary biting, inking, wiping and printing. In addition, different qualities and colors of ink and paper produce a myriad of effects. Sloan made this plate to demonstrate results achieved by controlling the length of time the plate sits in an acid bath.
