Label TextW. W. Gilchrist (1846-1916) was a composer of hymns and popular songs. The inclusion of sheet music in Harper's reflected the late nineteenth-century rise in concert-going and choral societies, as well as the new upright piano found in many homes. Music became an increasingly accessible form of family entertainment. Pyle's angelic figures and vaguely classical decorations personify a musical mood rather than a story.
