Label TextLucien Pissarro, the son of the impressionist painter Camille and his wife Esther, arrived in London and founded the Eragny Press in 1894. Following in the footsteps of William Morris' Kelmscott Press, the Pissarros produced limited edition books, often using woodcut illustrations to emphasize the hand-crafted nature of the production. Eragny Press designs feature a unique combination of English arts and crafts and French impressionist aesthetics. This image was originally intended to be printed in the periodical The Dial, but was unpublished until 1893 when it was included in the album L'Estampe original. (msf)
