Label TextDuring 1903, Pyle and his students gathered for a weekly drawing class in which they took turns assigning a subject for everyone to sketch. At Pyle's suggestion, some of the students invited the landlord of their studio Samuel Bancroft, Wilmington industrialist and Pre-Raphaelite art collector, to attend one of these classes. On the evening of March 25, 1903, the class members created sketches of their personal interpretation of "The End" and later presented these sketches to Bancroft as commemoration of his attendance that evening.
