Label TextFamous later as a furniture designer and maker, Esherick began his career as a painter, became interested in woodcuts in the early 1920s, and from the woodcutting process, began to design and carve furniture. This woodcut is from a series of four cuts that commemorate seasonal activities in agrarian communities. The series first appeared in Century Magazine in 1923, and the prints were included in an exhibition at the Wilmington Society of the Fine Arts (the predecessor to the Delaware Art Museum) in 1924.
