Biography: Marya Werten was a painter, graphic artist, designer, and educator. She also illustrated books and created poster designs. Werten taught at the Warsaw Academy and a summer school at Zakopane in her native Poland. She toured America in 1932, givng lectures on the history and motifs of Polish folk art. She adapted these visual traditions in her own prints. A body of her work resides at the Polish Museum of America in Chicago.
