Thomas Worth
Date: American illustrator, 1834–1917
Biography: Thomas Worth was an American illustrator. He was born in New York City and was a regular contributer to the lithography firm of Currier and Ives beginning in 1855. Worth was best know for his Darktown series which featured racist and comic depictions of African Americans engaged in episodes of "everyday-life." These works which celebrated a wide variety of nineteenth-century racist stereotypes were some of Currier and Ives best selling prints.
