Samuel Johnson Woolf
Date: American painter, illustrator, and printmaker, 1880–1948
Biography: Born in New York, Woolf studied with Kenyon Cox and George de Forest Brush at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design. He worked as a correspondent in Europe during World War I. After the war he made hundreds of charcoal drawings of famous men for Time Magazine. He was best known as a portraitist.
