Biography: Sam Reveles was born in 1958 and raised in El Paso, Texas. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles School of the Arts & Architecture in 1981, completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at El Paso in 1985 and finished his master of fine arts degree at Yale School of Art in 1987. The artist began exhibiting his work in the late 1980s, was included in the Whitney Biennial in 1995, and was the subject of a solo show at the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston in 1999. Reveles has received residency placements, grants, and awards for his abstract, gestural paintings that capture the energy and natural phenomena of spaces. The artist is included in the public collections of the Delaware Art Museum, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Saint Louis Art Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others.
