John Henry Hill
Date: American painter and printmaker, 1839–1922
Biography: John Henry Hill is considered a part of the American Pre-Raphaelite movement—artists who took to heart John Ruskin's insistence on fidelity to nature. Hill came from a family of engravers and his father influenced him heavily. His landscape and still life paintings present nature in precise detail. In the 1860s he took up etching and produced more than 70 plates.
