About: R. W. Martin and Brothers Pottery was a small art pottery business run by the brothers Wallace, Walter, and Edwin Martin. Although the early output of the pottery was more utilitarian in nature, by the 1870s the production became less symmetrical and more natural. Wallace Martin began modeling face-jugs in the late 1880s. While the original inspiration was classical satyr visages, they soon took on an individuality that was entirely unique.
