About: Pyle student Charlotte Harding Brown worked as an illustrator until 1917, when she stopped her commercial work. The inscription by the artist's daughter on the reverse of this design notes: "This book-plate was a graduation present from my mother to me in June 1930 when I graduated from Vassar College." Customized bookplates had a revival during the Arts and Crafts movement.
